A unique and fascinating journey of discovery awaits you at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium. It’s one of the few aquariums in the UK to solely feature local species and it brilliantly showcases the wonderful marine life which can be found along the Jurassic Coast, from the exotic looking Ballan Wrasse with their vibrant colours to the inquisitive cute Blennies. Whatever the weather, this small interactive aquarium by the sea will enthral, captivate and enlighten you.

The aquarium is housed amongst the eighteenth-century warehouses at the end of the iconic Cobb and features a changing display of local marine life, but its main attraction is the interactive elements it prides itself on including mullet feeding, holding a starfish and getting up close with lobsters and crabs. The mullet feeding is a highlight of a visit for many and involves the gentle silvery grey creatures swarming around your hand as you lower your clenched fist containing food into the giant mullet tank. Mullet have no teeth, so it feels very much like you’re being kissed on your hand as they feast on the food. It’s a wonderfully unique experience, much loved by kids and adults alike. Holding a starfish and getting up close with crabs and lobsters provide great moments of joy for children and fantastic photo opportunities for you to cherish the memories of a visit.

Mixed in with the marine life are some historical artefacts and interesting presentations including displays on the history of the Cobb, Lyme Regis lifeboat, traditional lobster pot making, the filming of French Lieutenants Woman and Persuasion, plus a video screen featuring dramatic footage of storms.

Love Lyme Regis thoroughly recommends a visit to the aquarium during a visit to the town.

Average duration of a visit is between 30 minutes and an hour.
